The South Asian Soundcheck has delivered the first comprehensive study of South Asian music professionals across the UK.
Drawing on the voices of 349 creators and industry workers, the report reveals both the promise and persistent challenges faced by South Asians in music. The findings show that while talent is strong and ambition global, barriers remain systematic.
At its core, three priorities stand out clearly: mentorship, representation, and funding. Together, these are the keys to unlocking one of the UK’s most vital yet under-recognised cultural assets.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
The Soundcheck is just the beginning.
Lila is now working with industry partners to put these findings into action: building structured mentorship programmes, pushing for representation in decision-making roles, and securing funding that reflects the global and genre-fluid reality of South Asian music.
The convergence of commercial opportunity, community demand, and industry readiness creates the conditions for change.
